CodeCheck privacy policy.

This site is run by Code Check Australia Pty Ltd (ACN 700 229 349). This policy says what we collect, where it goes, and how long we keep it, written to be read, not skimmed. We handle personal information under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. Questions or requests: info@codecheckaustralia.com.au. Last updated 20 August 2026.

1. What we collect

Tool account: your email address, the Australian state you pick at sign-up, and a one-time note of how you first arrived - the page that referred you here (if your browser shared one), the page on our site you landed on, any campaign tags in the link you followed, and when - recorded against your account when you first sign up, so we know how people find us. Signing in is by emailed code; we never see or store a password. Tool questions: while the self-serve tool runs, the questions you ask it are logged in full, together with the answer you were shown and whether it reached your screen, with your account and state, so we can monitor quality, cost and abuse, and follow up if an answer was wrong. Anything personal you type into a question (an address, a name) is logged with it. Orders: when you send the animations form (or, while those services ran, the plan-review form or a paid question at /ask), we keep your name, email and everything you typed, plus the quotes or answers we email you and our own working notes on the job, in our order records. Card payments are handled by our payment provider; we never see or store your card number. Uploaded files: PDFs you attach to an animation order, and any plans uploaded while the retired plan-review service ran. Emails: anything you email us lives in our business mailbox. IP addresses: used transiently to rate-limit requests; we don't write them into our application records.

2. What stays in your browser

When you save an answer, it is kept in your own browser's local storage, along with your recent questions, and clearing your browser data clears them. The answers you're shown are also kept in our quality logs alongside your questions for 90 days, so we can audit accuracy and reach out if we ever spot a wrong answer. A small note of how you first arrived (the referring page if any, the page you landed on, any campaign tags in the link, and when) sits in your browser too; it travels with your sign-in requests, and we keep it against your account only the first time you sign up - otherwise we don't store it. The only cookies we set are the ones that keep you signed in. Our hosting provider also counts visits for us in aggregate (pages viewed, referring site, country, device type) - cookieless, and never tied to your identity. Beyond that, there are no third-party analytics trackers, no advertising pixels, and no third-party embeds anywhere on the site.

3. How we use it

To answer your questions, quote and deliver your orders, keep the service safe (rate limits, spam filtering), and understand our own costs and quality. We don't sell personal information and we don't use it for advertising.

4. How your question is processed

Paid questions (/ask): a team member reads your name, email and full question to research and write your answer, and may use specialist third-party processing services as part of that. What we give those services is your question text (including anything personal you typed into it) and passages from the code documents we hold, not your name, email address or account details. The self-serve tool (/check, currently paused): its answers are generated with the help of specialist third-party processing services. What they receive is your question text, the state you selected, and passages from the code documents we hold. They never receive your name, email address or account details. Some of these services process data outside Australia.

5. Who processes it for us

Like most online services, we use a small number of specialist providers to run the site: hosting, database and sign-in, email delivery, card payment processing, rate-limiting, and the research processing above. Some of them process data outside Australia, including in the United States.

6. Order links and email

Order receipts, quotes and delivery notices go to the email address you type into the form, and question answers arrive the same way, as a reply to that address. Your receipt normally includes a private tracking link. That link is the key to your order: anyone holding it can see what you submitted and download your delivered files. Double-check your email address, and don't forward the link. Your uploaded files are held in private storage and are only ever reachable through time-limited signed links; the download links on your order page are regenerated each time you open it.

7. How long we keep it

Logged tool questions and answers are deleted automatically after 90 days. Uploaded files are deleted after your order is complete, as part of our routine clean-up. Order records, including the quotes we sent you, are kept as business records for five years, then deleted; historical question orders and the answers we emailed are order records too, kept the same way. Your account stays until you ask us to close it: email us and we'll delete your profile, and your logged questions and answers age out within the 90-day window. Backups made by our providers may persist briefly beyond deletion.

8. How we keep it safe

Your information sits in private storage, not on public pages. Uploaded files are reachable only through time-limited signed links, and the download links on your order page are regenerated each time you open it. Sign-in works by emailed one-time code, so we never hold a password of yours, and card payments happen with our payment provider, so we never see or store your card number. Access to order records is limited to the people who need it to answer or deliver your order. No storage is perfect, but we take reasonable steps to protect what you give us, and we only collect what the service actually needs.

If a data breach ever happens that is likely to cause you serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, as the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme requires.

9. Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it: info@codecheckaustralia.com.au. If you're not happy with how we've handled something, you can complain to us first, and to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).

When you ask for a copy, a correction or a deletion, we will first check the request really comes from you, normally by replying to the email address on your account or order. We do not charge for these requests, and we aim to respond within 30 days. If we cannot do what you have asked, for example because we need to keep it as a record of your order, we will tell you why in plain terms.

If you complain to us, a team member will acknowledge your complaint within 2 business days, look into it, and reply to you with what we found and what we will do about it. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can take your complaint to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

10. Changes

We'll update this policy as the service grows; the date at the top tells you when it last changed. If you would like a copy of this policy in another form, email info@codecheckaustralia.com.au and we will provide one free of charge.

11. Library members

If you join the video library membership, a few extra things apply on top of the rest of this policy. Your subscription: billing runs through our payment provider, and what we keep is the subscription record it sends us - your plan, its status, the billing period, and the provider's reference numbers. We never see or store your card number. Library searches: what you type into the library search box, how many results it found, and which video you open are logged so we can improve the search and see what is missing from the library. These search logs are not tied to your account: they carry the query and the click, not who you are. Video requests: if your membership includes the monthly video request, we keep each request - your email address, the topic and any clause reference you typed - as an order record, kept the same way as section 7 describes for other orders. Student memberships: we check student sign-ups by hand, which means a team member looks at the email address you joined with, and may email you to ask about it. We do not ask for or store identity documents.
